Mass celebrated at the Saint Vincent de Paul Centre, Box Hill, for the feast of Saint Vincent de Paul

Tuesday, 27th September 2016

Dear Friends of Saint Vincent de Paul, dear Apostles of Charity,

Today we honour our great patron, Saint Vincent de Paul, who was born on 24th April 1581 and died at the age of seventy-nine on this day in 1660. In 1729 Pope Benedict XIII beatified him and eight years later he was canonised by Pope Clement XII.

Mass celebrated at Tarrawarra Abbey, Yarra Glen

Sunday, 25 September, 2016

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The Gospel today gives us a great contrast – between the rich man and Lazarus (Lazarus means help from God), who is simply there asking nothing. Between these two yawns an unbridgeable gap. A chasm of ignorance, egoism and self-sufficiency has opened around the one who enjoys himself, his slumbering conscience untouched by poverty’s reproach.

Mass celebrated at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne

Sunday 18 September 2016

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Eighty years ago the American Liberty magazine sent out one hundred letters to people selected at random. Each letter contained a dollar bill and the explanation that it represented an adjustment of a billing error made in response to a complaint. Actually no complaint had been registered and the dollars were sent out simply as a test of the honesty of those who received them. Of the one hundred dollars sent out only twenty-seven were returned.

Funeral Mass of Father Andrew Camilleri celebrated by Archbishop Denis Hart at Saint Clare’s Church, Thomastown West

Friday 16 September 2016

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

“Happy are those who die in the Lord. Since their good deeds go with them, they are in peace.” (Apocalypse 14:13)

Today we come to farewell a fine priest and a wonderful brother. Father Andrew Camilleri never lost the essential joy of the Gospel, was a gifted and enthusiastic friend, one who gave tremendous encouragement to colleagues and people alike.
