Blessing of Saint John of God Hospital, Geelong - Thursday 14 August 2014
BLESSING OF SAINT JOHN OF GOD
HOSPITAL, GEELONG, BY ARCHBISHOP DENIS HART ON THURSDAY, 14TH AUGUST 2014 AT 11.00
Brothers and Sisters,
The extensive new facilities which
have been developed here at Saint John of God Hospital are indeed a reason for
tremendous thanksgiving to God. The
Saint John of God mission has been for many years one of compassionate care for
those in need. The expansion of Saint
John of God Private Hospital, which has existed here in Geelong since 1974 is a
clear indication of the Sisters and their collaborators showing visionary skill
in providing for the needs of the community in a skilled and up-to-date
environment, bringing the very best of medical science and technology at the
forefront of their care of the human person.
Our Catholic understanding of the
human person is that everyone is made in the image and likeness of Christ and
fashioned to him in baptism and therefore is to be treated with the greatest
respect. Whenever a person is sick they
are sharing in their own body in the passion of Christ which brought us
redemption. It is a time when the Church
and the community seek to reach out to all those who are under our care.
In my visits to Saint John of God I
have always found a wonderful community spirit, a friendliness and a welcome
which assists those who come to the hospital to know that they are in the very
best possible care.
So I do congratulate all here at Saint
John of God for your vision, your ongoing care and for your readiness to see in
the work that you do a Christlike service to your sisters and brothers. May this hospital long be a place of healing
and comfort, compassion and goodness, of welcome and support. Congratulations to you all and may Christ
through his love shine in you.
+ Denis J. Hart,
ARCHBISHOP OF MELBOURNE.
