Blessing of the conference room and sacristy at Tarrawarra Abbey
BLESSING OF THE CONFERENCE ROOM AND SACRISTY AT TARRAWARRA ABBEY BY ARCHBISHOP DENIS HART ON SATURDAY, 14TH DECEMBER 2013 AT 11.00 A.M.
As you know the liturgy which you celebrated in early morning linked the preparation by Elijah and John the Baptist and their lack of recognition with the coming of Christ. The Church invited us in the Psalm to turn to the Lord and to see his face. Surely, this means that we are invited in these sacred places to recognise God’s presence and activity and to be open to it.
I rejoice with the Tarrawarra community at the development of the Conference room and Sacristy from the old Sacristy and verandah. I believe that these will enable those who come to visit the Monastery to understand more fully the call to monastic life and the fullness of contemplation of Jesus Christ, which will be explained and pondered here.
Together with the monks I recognise the work of builder and architect, the magnificent support of the lay committee and the readiness of Tarrawarra to adapt to modern needs and possibilities for the proclamation and contemplation of the Gospel. It is my joy as Archbishop to recognise Tarrawarra as a powerhouse of prayer, where the mystery of redemption is lived and contemplated.
Occasionally on retreat in the evening I have stood at the junction of the two parts of the drive looking back towards the city and pondering that everyone and everything in the city has been carried to God by the monks of Tarrawarra for so many years. We are immensely grateful Fathers and Brothers, for your example, your faith and your living of the paschal mystery over all this time. May Jesus live in your hearts forever.
+ Denis J. Hart,
ARCHBISHOP OF MELBOURNE.
