Ordination to the Priesthood of Tho Tran celebrated by Archbishop Denis Hart in St Patrick’s Cathedral Melbourne
Saturday 23 June 2018
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I welcome all of you to this celebration of ordination to the priesthood for Tho Tran who, after preparation in our seminary and generous pastoral work, comes forward to be ordained to the priesthood.
I welcome members of his family and all who have come for this recognition, that the gift of priesthood in the Church is the living presence of Jesus Christ in word and sacrament to unite us, his people, to be with him always.
With esteem and love we come to welcome Tho Tran to be ordained to the priesthood. Tho has spent a number of years preparing to come to our seminary, has returned to Viet Nam to look after his father, and has spent effective pastoral time as deacon in the Parish of Laverton and Altona Meadows. He is a kind and generous and faith-filled man who will become a good priest.
Every priest is called out from the people of God to be one who cares for us and shepherds us, guides us and makes us holy, and because I am sure of the gifts which Tho has, I am happy to go forward to his ordination, surrounded by so many of his family, his friends and the priests and people of the Archdiocese of Melbourne. Tho has many gifts which he will use well in pastoral work and I believe that his ordination will be a wonderful enrichment to the Archdiocese.
Tho, thank you for your faith and goodness, thank you for your honesty and truthful work with me, and for all that you will do.
After ordination I am intending to appoint Father Tran back to the Parish of Laverton and Altona Meadows where I am sure his priestly ministration in this large parish with five schools, will be beneficial and build up the people of God.
Tho, ad multos annos, wishing you many blessings from your selfless embracing of priesthood.
Then text as in the Pontifical.
