Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As we begin our Conference we are in living communion with Pope Francis and his personal representative Archbishop Adolfo Tito Yllana, who will visit later this week, and with the people of God whom we seek to serve in the invitation to holiness given to be saints, men and women who live the cross in daily life.

Mass celebrated at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne

Sunday 30 April 2017

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We must say that it was a great privilege for the two disciples to meet Jesus on the road to Emmaus and listen to him explaining the scriptures. You might even say that you would love to have been with them on the road or to be part of this experience. In fact every time we celebrate the Eucharist we meet Jesus in the same way.

Mass celebrated for the Chapter of the Scalabrinian Fathers at Saint John’s Church, East Melbourne

Tuesday 25 April 2017

My dear Scalabrinian Brothers in the Priesthood,

Since November of 1952 the Scalabrinian presence in Australia has been a wonderful gifted example of missionary outreach. We recognise the incomparable contribution of Fathers Dante Orsi and Ignazio Militello; the work that Scalabrinians continue to do among migrant communities - first the Italian and then later also Filipino and Spanish-speaking, is a powerful illustration of the love of Christ. (2 Cor 5-14)

Mass celebrated at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne

Sunday 23 April 2017

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today’s Gospel describes Jesus appearing to his apostles as his closest friends. We must remember that the apostles were downcast and felt the Lord had gone from among them. His appearance and simple message of peace was very confronting. The apostles thought that they were safely locked away and were suddenly confronted by the risen One being with them in reality. Also they were face to face with the teacher they had abandoned and denied.

Funeral Mass of Father James Kierce at St Mary's Church, Greensborough

Wednesday 12 April 2017

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We have gathered today with his niece Bernadette and other members of the Kierce family, his priestly family and the whole Church of Melbourne, as we bid farewell to Father Jim Kierce, a caring and experienced pastor, Melbourne's senior priest and one who echoed the words of Martha in the Gospel today, "Yes Lord, I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, the one who was to come into this world".
