Mass celebrated at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne

Sunday 18th June 2017, Feast of Corpus Christi

Dear Brothers and Sisters,The feast of Corpus Christi has always reminded me how real and close is Jesus when present to us. In the sacrifice of the Mass what he did on the cross in death is made present again and the bread and wine consecrated become his Body and Blood, the food and medicine for our souls.I have often said here that whether in the celebration of Mass where we prepare by listening to God’s Word and then the bread and wine are changed so that Jesus becomes really present, we are drawn into unity with our God in a marvellous and wonderful way, which will never end.

Mass celebrated at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne

Sunday, 11 June 2017, Trinity Sunday

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today we celebrate the feast of the Holy Trinity, remembering that God invites us to be drawn into the love of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We need to remember that God is not an abstraction, but a Trinity of persons who love and give for each other in such a powerful way that that love is poured into our lives and our hearts.

With great love and honour, I welcome you all to St Patrick's Cathedral as we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Neocatechumenal Way in Australia. I greet with esteem Toto and Rita Piccolo, Father Tony and our local leaders Joe and Carmen, and all who have been touched so powerfully by the Word of God. I thank you for your goodness and for allowing the Word of God to touch and burn in your hearts, so that the privilege of bringing God's living word to people shines from you beautifully and humbly, and brings life to the world.

Be sure that as we celebrate this Mass in love, the Lord will bless us, his priests, to be his instruments in the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

Mass celebrated at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne, for Pentecost Sunday

Sunday 4 June 2017

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Welcome to Saint Patrick’s Cathedral for Pentecost Sunday, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Today we welcome candidates for Confirmation on this Feast of the Holy Spirit who came upon the apostles in the form of tongues of fire. The Holy Spirit transformed them from fearful men into tireless witnesses of the love of God in his world and was the foundation of the Church of Jesus Christ.
