The Easter Message of Archbishop Denis Hart for Sunday 12 April 2009.
“Jesus is risen and he is with us!”
In recent months the terrible bushfires have brought loss of loved ones and of property. Communities have been torn apart and are gradually beginning to rebuild. Our thoughts are with them particularly.
Two days ago we pondered the suffering of Jesus on the cross, the silence of the tomb bringing the stillness of early morning. Jesus has risen from the dead to show us that human life is transformed.
Those who were waiting have come to be with God in heaven and new hope is offered to every human being who believes in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
Initially, those who survived bushfire and homelessness stated how they are fortunate. They discovered the goodness in many people they did not know.
The present longer journey of perseverance through hard work to build the future is immeasurably strengthened if we hope in Jesus. Even amidst the suffering of loss, sickness, loneliness and isolation, Jesus is walking with us to give light in our darkness and to bring the realisation of what we can become.
The challenge this Easter is to believe that God is near and so to value each other and work together to remake and transform our city, our community, our family.
The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia!
