POPE Francis has released a beautiful and thought-provoking Lenten Message for 2014. Reading it, I have been struck by several close connections with his exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium (‘The Joy of the Gospel’), which we have been studying; in particular, the relationship between the ‘very heart of the Gospel’ and the experience of poverty.

IN my last column, I wrote about Pope Francis’ vision, outlined in his apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel), for a ‘missionary transformation’ of the whole Church. His vision is for a Church which has encountered God in Jesus Christ, which knows the Good News of the Kingdom which he has given us to proclaim, and which enacts that Gospel in everything it says or does.
