Cardinal Pell to face trial

Magistrate Belinda Wallington has announced that Cardinal Pell will stand trial on alleged historic sex offences. While a number of charges, including the most serious against him, were discharged, Ms Wallington deemed that there was sufficient evidence for the case to proceed.

PNG earthquake: Caritas response supports recovery

Caritas Australia with its partners on the ground is responding to the impact of a 7.5 magnitude earthquake which has killed 150 people and has left, according to the UN, 270,000 people including 125,000 children, in need of emergency aid.

Caritas is providing urgent shelter and health support, especially in the form of clean water, sanitation and hygiene support (WASH) as well as trauma counselling. 

Australian nun detained in the Philippines

Authorities have arrested a 71-year-old Australian Catholic nun and known human rights advocate over allegations that she is an ‘undesirable alien’.

Sr Patricia Fox, superior of the Our Lady of Sion congregation in the Philippines, was met by six personnel of the Bureau of Immigration at their mission house in Quezon City on Monday afternoon. She was taken to the BI intelligence division in Intramuros, Manila, where she was detained.
