Catholic News Service  ASSURING his prayers for the victims and families of the terrorist attack in Brussels, Pope Francis condemned the ‘cruel abominations’ and prayed for the conversion of those who adhere to violent fundamentalism.  ‘To all, I ask that you persevere in prayer and in asking the Lord in this Holy Week to comfort the hearts of the afflicted and to convert the hearts of those people taken in by cruel fundamentalism,’ the pope said at the end of his weekly general audience in St. Peter's Square on 23 March.

POPE FRANCIS will preside over a consistory next week to approve the canonisation of five men and women, including Blessed Teresa of Kolkata.

The 15 March consistory will also determine the approval of canonisation of Argentine ‘gaucho priest,’ Blessed Jose Gabriel del Rosario Brochero and Blessed Jose Sanchez del Rio, a 14-year-old Mexican boy martyred for refusing to renounce his faith during the Cristero War of the 1920s.

New ‘awe-inspiring’ mosaic shows apparition at Knock, Ireland

A NEW MOSAIC was unveiled Sunday at the shrine of Our Lady of Knock in Ireland. The mosaic, illustrated by well-known Irish artist PJ Lynch, depicts in incredible detail the 1879 Apparition, as described by the 15 official witnesses. It has been crafted by a team of mosaic artisans of Travisanutto Mosaics. The artisans, from Spilimbergo, near Venice, Italy, worked on the mosaic for eight months in their workshop before transporting it to Knock in sections during January. A team of artisans came to Knock to install the huge artwork, which measures 14 metres x 14 meters (46 feet by 46 feet).
