Pope Benedict is frail, but his mind remains 'perfectly lucid'

ALTHOUGH RETIRED Pope Benedict XVI is growing more frail, there are no particular concerns or worries regarding his health, a Vatican spokesman has stated. Father Federico Lombardi, the Vatican spokesman, issued a statement at Easter following an interview with Archbishop Georg Ganswein, the retired pope's personal secretary, in which the archbishop said Pope Benedict was slowly ‘fading.’

HOLY WEEK started in Jerusalem with the big Palm Sunday procession – but the political situation has left its mark.

Jerusalem belongs to the Christians on Palm Sunday. Bearing palm fronds and olive branches, thousands of locals and visitors from all over the world make their way singing and praying down the Mount of Olives to the Old City of Jerusalem to receive the blessing of the Latin Patriarch. 

Pope Francis to wash the feet of migrants on Holy Thursday

AFTER SPENDING previous years washing the feet of inmates and disabled persons on Holy Thursday, this year Pope Francis will celebrate the liturgy in a welcoming centre for migrants and refugees. 

The Pope will say a Chrism Mass at the Vatican before heading to the Reception Centre for Asylum Seekers, or CARA, in Castelnuovo di Porto, just over 18 miles outside of Rome, on the afternoon of Holy Thursday.
