As weeks pass with isolation measures in place, parishes continue to adapt their outreach and online faith formation activities beyond simply providing online Mass. While the last six weeks have been a challenging journey for many, parishes are embracing new tools to foster connection. Video conferencing program Zoom has been a key tool for parishes to nourish relationships and spiritual connection between parishioners and replicate that sense of community.

Passing the collection plate may become an image from the past. When Mass attendance was suspended last month, Melbourne priests voiced concerns about how parishes would be able to meet operational costs over the long term without the weekly collection, often a parish’s most reliable source of funding.

Catholic Education Melbourne’s Creative Arts Exhibition has gone online as a digital experience, as voting for the People’s Choice Award opens. 2020 has been a record year for the number of entries received from schools to participate in the Creative Arts Exhibition. Over 650 artworks were submitted by 147 schools, presenting the curators with a highly challenging task to choose the exceptional works which would be exhibited. The Creative Arts Exhibition is a celebration of the artistic and creative talents and achievements of our students and their dedicated teachers, and is a key opportunity to shine a light on the importance of the Arts within the curriculum.

Community services are scaled back or shut. Doors are closed and bolted. Meals options are dwindling and harder to find. The lifelines are suddenly looking tenuous.
