Centacare celebrates 75th Anniversary at Government House

Centacare Catholic Family Services celebrated their 75th anniversary with a reception hosted by the Governor, Prof. David de Kretser and Mrs De Kretser at Government House on 6 September. The Governor commended Centacare, saying “You have played a vital role in caring for the disadvantaged, and supporting families to care for their children. My warmest congratulations to the Catholic Church of Melbourne and Centacare on reaching your 75th anniversary.

In May, Kairos reported on thesearch for a loving adoptive family for a two year old girl claled Anne. We are pleased to be able to report that Anne is now living with her new adoptive mother Viv.

What were your impressions of the conference?

It was clear to me that some of the NGO-sponsored workshops had definite agendas based on their particular interpretation of human rights. Many groups asserted that sexual and reproductive rights are equivalent to the basic human right to health.

This Roman adage, translated as ‘if you want peace, prepare for war’ has within its overtly aggressive tone a hidden pearl of wisdom. That is, that the pursuit of peace requires positive action. This principle was taken up by his Holiness Pope Paul VI in his 1972 ‘World Peace Day Message’, in which he challenged the Church: “If you want peace, work for justice.”
