Parishioners at St Dominic’s Parish, Broadmeadows hold Carmen Facciol in much esteem and respect for her faith, perseverance and ‘mother’ image in the parish. A long-time parishioner, Carmen is known to all as a prayerful person and daily Mass attendee.

A holy welcome

Holy Saturday can be a rather low-key day, coming as it does after the first two great liturgies of the Triduum – the Lord’s Supper and the Solemn Commemoration of the Death of our Lord – and before the celebration of His Resurrection at the greatest liturgy of the year, the Easter Vigil on Saturday evening.

The recent Blessing and Opening of the Whitefriars College Chapel in Donvale was a joyous occasion shared by some four hundred members of the Carmelite’s local, national and international family.

The rich liturgical celebration was led by the Carmelites’ Prior General, Rev. Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm, who was joined by the General Councillor for Asia, Australia and Oceania, Rev. Albertos Herwanta, O.Carm and newly elected Australian Provincial Rev. Denis Andrew, O.Carm. The large gathering also included a number of Carmelite Religious, among whom the College’s founding Principal, Rev. Frank Shortis, O.Carm, was specially acknowledged.
