NSW Attorney General: ‘We can show survivors we believe them’

New South Wales has become the first state in Australia to enact laws for a National Redress Scheme for survivors of institutional child sexual abuse.

A new bill for institutional child sexual abuse in New South Wales has been declared a milestone for the state.

NSW Attorney General Mark Speakman said the new laws would demonstrate to survivors that they were believed.

PNG earthquake: Caritas response supports recovery

Caritas Australia with its partners on the ground is responding to the impact of a 7.5 magnitude earthquake which has killed 150 people and has left, according to the UN, 270,000 people including 125,000 children, in need of emergency aid.

Caritas is providing urgent shelter and health support, especially in the form of clean water, sanitation and hygiene support (WASH) as well as trauma counselling.
