Two former prime ministers from opposing sides of politics have urged Victorian politicians to abandon a euthanasia bill, amid warnings the legislation would fundamentally alter the way society valued human life.
Paul Keating and Tony Abbott have come out strongly in opposition to Victoria’s voluntary euthanasia push, which has passed its first hurdle in the state’s lower house. The former prime ministers joined the nation’s peak medical body and Australia’s most powerful churches in seeking to have the bill scrapped.

Bishops Commission meets to prepare for 2020 Plenary Council

Over two days last week, the first joint meeting was held of the Bishops Commission for the 2020 Plenary Council. The meeting, at St Joseph’s Retreat Centre in Baulkham Hills (Sydney), comprised the Executive Committee and the Facilitation Team of the Bishops Commission.

It was an important step on the journey toward Plenary Council 2020, an event announced by the Bishops of Australia early this year.

There’s nothing particularly memorable about the carpark of a fastfood restaurant. And yet, for a week, a carpark in regional Victoria was home for me and my teenage son. 

How did we end up living out of the car and relying on the restaurant’s facilities to wash? Two words: family violence. 

If you were to tell me that I would end up in that situation, I would have said you were mad. I am a strong woman and don’t scare easily.
