The producers of The Magnolia Tree are touting it as Australia's most controversial play. The production is currently being performed at La Mamma Theatre.
A family has come together to choose a nursing home for their mother, who has Alzheimer’s. Jack wants them to let her go, tonight, and he has brought the means to do it. This gripping play has two endings and, at the end of the second act, the audience chooses the outcome: place the mother in a home or euthanaise her tonight?
As one reviewer writes, 'Free from the political grandstanding the show is deeply personal and deals with the controversial matter at a human level.'
The play is written by Michael Griffith and directed by Sara Grenfell. It is performed by Helen Hopkins, Ezra Bix and Rohana Hayes. The Magnolia Tree premiered this week and ends on 28 May.
The producers are seeking crowdfunding to tour nationally.
