A tournament not for the faint of heart

On the weekend, religious and diocesan seminarians and their friends gathered at Salesian College, Chadstone for the annual soccer tournament known as the Brotherhood Cup. Players from Yarra Theological Union, Missionaries of God's Love, Corpus Christi College and the Salesians of Don Bosco passionately competed on the field, forming new friendships and building up their fraternity. This year the victors of the day were the Salesians.
The teams take the competition very seriously, many training for months prior and for the rest of the year in preparation for the next year. Injuries can be common and there is certainly sympathy and respect for those who turn up to class in the coming week with a leg brace or arm in a sling! Yet the seriousness remains only on the field, with the players gathering afterwards to share lunch, laughter and off-the-field advice.
