Creating child safe environments

Thursday 9 February 2017

Media and Communications Office

The Archdiocese of Melbourne has engaged CatholicCare to deliver training for all Archdiocesan staff and parishes as part of their commitment to creating and maintaining a child safe environment.

The implementation of this training will assist with education, awareness and support for parishes and employees in meeting the requirements of the new Victorian Child Safe Standards. It is another step in our journey of making sure all children are safe from harm, protected and respected.

The first stage of the project involves a series of parish workshops to share information and to gather information as to the best approaches for training and support to meet a wide range of parish needs. The CatholicCare team will conduct 14 FREE workshops across the Archdiocese in February and March 2017.

The second stage of the project will commence from late April 2017, with CatholicCare delivering training across the Archdiocese.

The continual development of a child safe environment is a priority for the Archdiocese of Melbourne and clearly stated in the Code of Conduct For Caring For Children ‘May Our Children Flourish’.
