Mass of Appreciation for CatholicCare supporters

Monday 27 November 2017

Not even the rain could keep CatholicCare supporters away, as hundreds gathered for the Annual Mass of Appreciation, held on Sunday, 26 November 2017 at St Patrick’s Cathedral.

It was—as always—a very special day, with Mass celebrated by the Most Reverend Denis Hart, Archbishop of Melbourne, and concelebrants the Very Reverend John Salvano, and CatholicCare’s Spiritual Director, Reverend Gerard Dowling PE.

The day was made even more special with the premier of Missa Chrisus Rex, a new Mass commissioned by St Patrick’s Cathedral to mark the 70th birthday of the renowned composer of liturgical music, Christopher Willcock SJ.

Donors, volunteers, benefactors, family, friends and staff of CatholicCare were blessed to be part of such a beautiful Mass; among them Netty Horton, who joined CatholicCare as CEO in mid-November.

John Sheldon, Chair of CatholicCare, shared words of appreciation with the congregation before the end of the Mass. ‘Together, your contributions have built on our shared mission - to break down the barriers to social inclusion and bring a sense of belonging to everyone.’

‘Together we are creating the kind of community that people like to be part of – with deeper, more nourishing connections.’

Following the Mass, CatholicCare supporters joined John and Netty for refreshments at the Cardinal Knox Centre, allowing another opportunity for staff to say thank you.
