Melbourne Archdiocese hosts its inaugural Youth Ministry dinner

Thursday 1 March 2018

On a warm Melbourne night this week, over 150 youth leaders from parishes, youth groups and community movements across the Archdiocese gathered to share a meal at Magnificat House in North Melbourne, the headquarters of the Legion of Mary. In the first dinner of its kind, the evening was a chance for the youth ministry leaders to begin and renew friendships with fellow youth minsters, to start conversations, to share ideas, to encourage one another, and to delight in the opportunities to share the joy of Jesus with young people.

Bishop Peter Elliott welcomed and encouraged everyone before guests settled into their delicious dinner. Guest speaker, Sr Cecilia Rose (a Dominican Sister of St Cecilia), shared about the landscape of youth ministry in this current time, ten years on from Sydney’s World Youth Day 2008. The room was abuzz with conversation all evening and there was an overwhelmingly positive response to the event.

As we settle into this 2018 Year of Youth, the Archdiocesan Office for Youth is endeavouring to work with parishes and communities to build solid youth ministry foundations and celebrate the gift that young people are to our Church.
