Mass for Religious celebrated by Archbishop Denis Hart at Saint...

Saturday 3 February 2018

Dear Friends,

The late Benedictine Cardinal Basil Hume of Westminster when asked what makes a good homily gave the following advice: ‘first there must be a good beginning, secondly a suitable ending and thirdly the two should be as close together as possible’! Well, I will leave it to you to judge if I have taken his advice today!

Red Mass celebrated by Archbishop Denis Hart at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne

Monday 29 January 2018

My dear Brothers and Sisters,

A very warm welcome to this Red Mass of the Holy Spirit, in which we implore the grace of God upon all in the legal profession.

I recognise particularly distinguished judges and magistrates, barristers and solicitors, members of legal staff, and their families, as we come to implore God’s help in the important equity, administration of the law and compassionate decisions that we make for the good of people.

Pastoral Letter of Archbishop Denis Hart for Lent 2018

February 2018

Dear Friends,

Lent is a time for ‘Spring cleaning’ in our souls. We move the furniture in our life, take down the curtains, wash the windows and create space by removing what clutters our daily lives. It is not just a matter of getting rid of mess. It is rearranging things, finding ways to create more room, a better space. We see ourselves differently and make more room for God.
