THERE is a story that when the church of the Immaculate Conception, Seymour, was being planned in 1938, Archbishop Daniel Mannix requested that it be built tall enough to be seen across the roofs from the railway line, in order that, returning from Sydney to Melbourne by train, ‘I might know that I am back in my Archdiocese’.
