IT may seem a long way from the Geelong
playing fields of St Joseph’s College to the Olympics and a prominent role in
football broadcasting during the AFL season. Even so, the journey undertaken by
Dr Peter Larkins, in hindsight, makes perfect sense.
Best known these days for his expert
football injury reports for television and radio, ‘Doc’ Larkins represented
Australia at the 1976 Montreal games in track and field, and credits the
Christian Brothers in large part for his ability to combine a career as an
elite athlete and leading commentator with that of a successful physician.
