Australian Sister Elected IBVM Loreto Sisters Vice General

28 September 2006 Australian Loreto Sister Sr Sandra Perrett has been elected as the “Vicar General” (Vice General) to help lead the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary Loreto Sisters worldwide. The new leadership team which included Sr Sandra was announced last week however this week she was also elected into the important role of Vicar General, (second in charge) to Sr Marian Moriarty, newly elected General Superior IBVM Loreto Sisters.

Archbishop Denis Hart, Archbishop of Melbourne, today gave the opening address at the Climate Change Conference arranged by the Melbourne Catholic Commission for Justice, Development and Peace and Catholic Earthcare Australia.  Archbishop Hart said 'It is timely and important that we consider the environment in which we live, the whole question of climate, environment, respect for and use of the world’s goods, and use it to restrain and direct the impulsive desire for profit and development of resources, which we do at the peril of permanently damaging our planet and leaving a wasteland for those who come after us.'

Pope Benedict XVI has today called for a renewed purpose in meeting the challenges facing Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders, in a personal message delivered to an indigenous gathering in Alice Springs.

The Pope’s message was delivered to more than 600 people from Australia and New Zealand, who are gathered in Alice Springs for The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholic Council’s ‘Dreaming from the Heart’ Assembly.
