Randwick Racecourse chosen for World Youth Day Papal Mass

Media Release: 6 October 2006Randwick Racecourse has been chosen to host the largest gathering of people ever held in Sydney - the overnight Vigil and Final Mass to be celebrated by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI during World Youth Day in July 2008 (WYD08). The Archbishop of Sydney, George Cardinal Pell, made the announcement today with Archbishop Stanislaw Rylko, President of the Pontifical Council for the Laity – the Vatican body reviewing Sydney’s preparation for the world’s biggest youth event.

World Youth Day launches competition for 2008 song

The search has begun for an anthem to celebrate the world’s largest youth event – World Youth Day 2008 (WYD08).

Archbishop Stanislaw Rylko, President of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, launched the song competition during his visit to Sydney along with WYD08 Coordinator Bishop Anthony Fisher OP.

Archbishop Rylko encouraged Australian songwriters to compose an inspirational tune for WYD08, an event which will see as many as 500,000 young Catholics gather in Sydney in July 2008.

Sisters of Life

ImageThe Sisters of Life jetted out of Melbourne to New York in the early hours of Monday morning 2 October 2006 having inspired those that met them with their message of building a culture of life and love. 

They were Sister Mary Gabriel, Sister Mary Concepta and Sister Antonianna Marie.

The Sisters of Life [http://sistersoflife.org/aboutus.htm] presented their message at four events conducted by the Archdiocese Respect Life Office, Vocations Office and Anima Women’s Conference.

Pope?s delegation arrives in Sydney

A three-person Papal delegation arrived in Sydney last night and have begun to review preparations for World Youth Day 2008 (WYD08).

Archbishop Stanislaw Rylko leads the delegation from the Pontifical Council for the Laity (PCL), the body that oversees World Youth Day preparations and promotes the initiative around the world.
