Christmas 2009 was well and truly alive in the Fitzroy community, with hundreds of people of all ages and cultures turning out to celebrate the Faith Festival held on 13 December 2009.
The event, hosted by All Saints Parish and Sacred Heart School, was the first in a series of festivals to take place throughout the Melbourne Archdiocese.
“We have been looking for ways to bring the community together and the Faith Festival was a great opportunity for us,” All Saints Parish administrator Fr Thinh Nguyen said. “It was a wonderful celebration.”
The festival also included an outdoor Mass celebrated by Bishop Tim Costelloe, while students from the school provided entertainment; from dancing, to singing, to Christmas-inspired art demonstrations.
The Faith Festivals are an initiative of the Archbishop’s Office for Evangelisation and are organised in collaboration with local faith communities. The festivals celebrate the faith and life of the local Church throughout Melbourne, while reflecting in many different ways the Word of God and its relevance to daily life.
Four more Faith Festivals are scheduled to take place later this year around Lent, Pentecost, the Assumption and Advent.
