The Archbishop of Melbourne, Peter A Comensoli has invited all Victorians to find a moment in quiet prayer and reflection today for the victims of the tragic Black Saturday bushfires.
Archbishop Comensoli said 'The devastation and enormous toll the fires took on families and communities was horrific. The scars left in the lives of so many – physically, emotionally, spiritually and materially – should not be forgotten.'
He added 'In the midst of such pain and suffering, there were many stories of great inspiration where people gave their all to help each other. The courage and selflessness of so many should also be remembered.'
'Over the ensuing years, as the land itself found new life, people also have rebuilt they homes and lives with courage and determination, accompanied by many ‘good angels’. We can all give thanks for these signs of hope and renewal.'
Masses are being celebrated today in the area ravaged by the Black Saturday fires as well as at St Patrick’s Cathedral at 1.00 p.m and other Parishes across the Archdiocese of Melbourne.
