Child poverty in Australia: Anti-poverty week CSSV lunchtime conversation

As part of anti-poverty week, Catholic Social Services Victoria hosted a lunchtime conversation in the Cathedral Room in the Cardinal Knox Centre with Dr Nick Halfpenny, Director of Policy and Research at MacKillop Family Services. The event followed a casual and conversational format, with Dr Nick establishing the scale of the problem around child poverty in this country: ‘1 in 6 Australian kids under the age of 15 are living in poverty; an estimated 730,000 children.’ 

Archbishop Comensoli releases statement on religious freedom bill on behalf of ACBC

“The Government’s Religious Discrimination Bill must protect the ability of churches and other religious groups to continue to serve the poor and sick through housing and supported accommodation, hospitals and aged care, soup vans, drop-in centres, providing food and clothing, and financial and emotional support,” the Archbishop Peter A Comensoli said today.
