Last year, more than 1,000 young Melburnians travelled thousands of kilometres to Perth to attend the Australian Catholic Youth Festival. Next week, pilgrims under lockdown in Melbourne will gather online for a reunion special to reunite with fellow pilgrims and reminisce and celebrate the highlights of ACYF and discover that the journey doesn't end just because the event does. Speaking at the event will be Archbishop Peter A. Comensoli and Fr Rob Galea with live music from Gen Bryant and Josh Angrisano.

During lockdown, we’re already learning to adapt without many simple pleasures like going to cafés, or restaurants, or a bookshop. But also, one of the things we miss is being in and around those beautiful sacred spaces that we frequent each week for Mass. That’s why we’re running a series on spaces around the Archdiocese – particularly St Patrick’s Cathedral – that reminds people of the beauty around us in the Archdiocese, but also to inspire hope that we’ll come to these places with new appreciation once the lockdown ends. Let us pray for the triumph of Christ as we continue during lockdown and we welcome you tune in to celebrate Mass this Sunday at 11am.

Mary MacKillop’s compassionate heart

Tuesday 5 August 2020

On 8 August we celebrate the feast day of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, Australia’s first saint. Mary grew up in the new colony of Melbourne and was very aware of the hardships and difficulties endured by the poor. She witnessed the needs of the society of her time and tried to address them. Mary was both an educator and a social worker and as a result of her dedication and commitment, orphanages and homes for the destitute were established. We remember at this time Mary MacKillop, the woman who gave of her whole self in order to serve God and others, even before her sainthood was officially bestowed. Here are just some of the ways that Mary MacKillop helped her community.

Ten Hail Marys for vocations

Tuesday 4 August 2020

Fr Denis Stanley

We are encouraged to pray for vocations. We are invited to pray that many will be inspired to be open to mystery of their vocation story, to trust the voice of the Lord breaking into their lives and to listen to any encouraging voice helping them to ponder the possibility of a vocation to the priesthood. But is that all? And when we pray for vocations, what are we praying for? Fr Denis Staley explores the mystery of what a call from God to serve his people means.
