National Reconciliation Week: In this together

Wednesday 27 May 2020

Mission Team
Each year, National Reconciliation Week marks two important dates in our nation’s history – the 1967 Referendum where more than 90 per cent of Australians voted to count Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the national census and give the Government power to make laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the High Court Mabo decision which recognised that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have rights to the land.

‘On this Feast Day of St Philip Neri, it is with great pleasure—and a twinge of sadness—that I welcome the appointment of Bishop Mark Edwards OMI as the next Bishop of the Diocese of Wagga Wagga,’ Archbishop Peter A Comensoli said.

‘St Philip was a 16th century disciple well-known for his natural ability to connect with people and invite them to an encounter with the risen Jesus. As Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne, Bishop Mark has shown this same missionary zeal, especially in his work with our young people and tertiary communities, and with the people of the Western Region of the Archdiocese for whom he has cared for these past years as their Regional Bishop. He will be well-placed to listen to and lead the people of God in Wagga Wagga.’

Re-emerging with purpose: Using what we learnt during lockdown to build more fruitful parishes

Mission Team
Our family has enjoyed our weekends during ‘lockdown’. Without the sporting commitments and social activities that usually fill our weekends, we have enjoyed board games, quiet days in the garden and regular exercise. We have learnt from this lockdown time that we want to be more vigilant about the choices we make with our family time—what we say ‘yes’ to.
