'Revealers of Jesus': Video message from Archbishop Peter A Comensoli

How might we be “revealers of Jesus” during this time of pandemic? In his latest video message, Archbishop Peter A Comensoli encourages the community to draw strength from Jesus, whose vulnerability on the cross revealed to the world the depths of His love. Let us take our fragility and bring it to the foot of the Cross, offering it up to Jesus and seeing in Him a way to live through these challenging times.

There is need of only one thing: St Martha of Bethany

It’s a well-known gospel story: Jesus visits the house of three siblings: Martha, Mary and Lazarus. Jesus and his followers sit, and Jesus speaks. Mary sits at Jesus’ feet to listen to him while Martha attends to the needs of her guests until her patience runs out, and Martha calls on Jesus to direct Mary to help her. Jesus chides Martha and tells her that Mary has made the right choice, that instead of being worried and distracted by many things, ‘there is need of only one thing.’

In our searching we are discovered (Homily, 17th Sunday in OT)

Why would Jesus make such a significant thing of comparing a pearl to the Kingdom of God? In part, we can readily perceive that Jesus might want to present God’s kingdom as a thing of great beauty and value. Indeed, it is of the utmost worth and loveliness, for God’s kingdom is the fullness of life. But this is not something that is self-made; this kingdom is not made in our own image and likeness, nor can we manufacture it from our own means. God’s Kingdom of life and truth and love is, rather, for us to discover. This is what the merchant did in the parable: he searches until he discovers the pearl of great price.
