Archbishop Denis Hart has joyfully welcomed Pope Francis’ appointment of Most Reverend Bishop Peter Andrew Comensoli as the ninth Archbishop of Melbourne.

In a message to staff, clergy and parishioners, he described Archbishop-elect Comensoli as ‘generous, gifted and faith-filled’.

‘He will bring a wealth of experience to the Archdiocese, beginning with his priestly ordination in Wollongong in 1992, followed by his ordination as Bishop in Sydney in 2011 and his appointment as Bishop of Broken Bay in 2014,’ said Archbishop Hart.

‘We greet him with warm hearts and hope for the future, and will be honoured to welcome him at the Mass of Reception in St Patrick’s Cathedral on Wednesday 1 August at 7pm.’

His Grace closed his message with an expression of thanks to the faithful of the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

‘I extend to all my humble gratitude for your goodness, prayers and magnificent support.’
