Celebrating the saints in style

Hilaire Belloc famously noted that “wherever the Catholic sun doth shine, there’s always laughter and good red wine.” It seems as though the same holds true for a Catholic evening! On All Saints’ Day, (Friday, November 1st) a cheerful crowd of Catholic 20 and 30-somethings toasted to the Church Triumphant. It was the launch of The Cana Club: a Melbourne-based social events group catering to Catholics looking to mingle in a relaxed and stylish atmosphere.
The event took place at Luton Lane Wine Bar, a hidden gem in the heart of Hawthorn. Ambient lighting, laid-back music and an exceptional bar staff all set the tone for a delightful evening. New and familiar faces forged friendships over topics such as travel plans, hometowns and Kanye West’s new album.

The feedback on the night and in the subsequent days was enormously positive. Many guests commented that they were glad to get to know fellow Catholics in a way that honoured their faith but also celebrated the urbane Melbourne aesthetic. Even though a broad variety of parishes (and even dioceses!) were represented, the focus was on getting to know each guest in the fullness of who they are as individuals.

Going forward, The Cana Club will continue to host fun social events that build a strong sense of Catholic community within Melbourne.

Lola is a recent convert to Catholicism. She created The Cana Club as an opportunity for faithful Catholics to get to know each other outside of a liturgical context. Applying her experience in events and hospitality both in New York and London to her hometown of Melbourne, Lola is committed to providing quality social events in a safe and friendly atmosphere.
