The parish of Our Lady of Lourdes Bayswater once again celebrated a multicultural day on Pentecost Sunday. On this day when we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit onto the Apostles and where their preaching was heard in many languages, we also recognise the unity of our diverse parish nationalities in our one Catholic faith.
The celebration began with a Thanksgiving Mass celebrated by Fr Sebastian Mappilaparambil. Parishioners actively participated in the Mass. Some came in their national attires and many joined in the entrance procession carrying their country’s flag.
The readings and prayers of the faithful were said in different languages. The Mass hymns were beautifully sung in different languages as well. Fr Sebastian reminded all during the homily that despite our different cultural heritage and backgrounds, our parishioners are united in faith and have mutual respect, love and concern for each other.
A simple gathering followed at the church hall where parishioners shared their national delicacies.
Coming and celebrating together leads to love, unity, respect and mutual appreciation of each other’s heritage. It’s something the parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes continuously strive towards.
