Archbishop Peter A Comensoli

How many of you have heard of Mary Glowrey? She’s our own home-grown saint. Born in country Victoria in 1887, Mary was quite an intellectually gifted child, who was dux at school and a scholarship holder at Melbourne university, where she studied – and excelled – in medicine, became one of the first women doctors in Australia in 1910. With a deep faith in God’s providence, Mary would go on to practice medicine among the poor families of inner Melbourne, especially during the years of the 1st World War. She regarded her work as a calling from God.
