Volume 18, Issue 22
This is the second of a two-part series on Caroline Chisholm in the lead up to the bicentenary of her birth on 30 May 1808.
Discerning God’s Will
From a young age Caroline Chisholm was aware of a call to serve others. When Archibald Chisholm proposed marriage she initially refused him for fear that her call would make her an unsuitable wife for an officer and an inadequate mother. She was ever ready to respond to the needs of those around her, from visiting the elderly in her village in the north of England to establishing a school for the daughters of poor soldiers while she was a young officer’s wife in Madras.
